Northeastern Vietnam’s Big shot is Halong Bay, and this UNESCO
recognized territory is a vital Vietnamese experience, this wild canvass also
portrays the rugged limestone cliffs, verdant rainforests, hidden caves,
gushing waterfalls and ancient marvels.

Towards the south of Halong Bay floats the Cat Ba Island, whose
reputation for adventure sports is fast becoming a legend. Towards its east is Bai
Tu Long Bay which is again a colorful and vibrant smorgasbord of natural
delights, and the mystical Quan Lan is gaining cult followership among intrepid
travelers.

Have you ever envisioned Halong Bay without the crowds? It’s not just a
fantasy; you can live the experience at Cat Ba Island. Most of the tours in Cat
Ba are centered on Lan Ha Bay, which is lesser swarmed, relatively pristine and
has splendid sandy beaches. Cat Ba
National Park is yet another priceless jewel, which is literally covered up
with dense forests.

Rough, jungle shrouded Cat Ba, the largest in the Bay, is fast becoming
the country’s adventure sport and ecotourism capital. Rich choices of
adrenaline pumping activities like sailing, bird-watching, cycling and rock
climbing exists.

About half of the total area of Cat Ba island along with 90 sq Km of
the surrounding waters was sanctioned as national park in the 1986, with a
motive of preserving the ecological
systems of the island: lush green forest on the hills, marshlands at the foot
of the hills, coastal swamps, freshwater ponds and sublime coral reefs. The
major part of the coastline is marked with rocky cliffs, but there are various
sandy shores as well as small, picturesque fishing villages are small coves. Lakes,
cascades and caves blemish the imposing limestone hills. Lan Ha Bay,
surrounding the southern waters off cat Ba, is dotted by hundreds of green-clad
limestone islands with several forlorn beaches.

The best time to visit Cat Ba is from September to November, when the
air and water are soothingly mild and the skies are mostly cleared.
